My Secret Daily Practice That Eases My Anxiety

I’ve had anxiety for as long as I can remember…

Mornings are the worst (for so many reasons), but a big one is because as soon as I open my eyes, all the negative thoughts, worries, out of control ideas coming flooding into my mind. I start sweating. My stomach gets that angry feeling deep within the pit of my stomach. The only thing I want to do is put my head back under the covers and just stay there.

But, avoidance actually makes it worse. Though counterintuitive - the thing that makes it better is getting up EARLY (something I hate, since I’m a night owl), so I can start my daily routine, which consists of these 4 steps:

Step #1: Gratitude

I try to begin every day by counting my blessings… naming all the amazing things I have that I am truly thankful for. I am quite the lucky lady.

Step #2: Avoid the Phone Time Warp

Though some days impossible, I try SO hard each day to not look at my phone first thing. Not only do those emails, texts and news headlines triple the rate of my anxiety… but it almost always leads me to the inevitable social media scroll. And before you know it an hour is gone!

Step #3: Hydrate

Though I would prefer an IV of straight caffeine, I always start the day with a glass of water. Hydration is key to soooo many things, from glowing skin to nail health to brain function - and I need all the help I can get. Once I down that H20 though, I move right on to my glass of Energize :)

Step #4: Get Moving

Whether it’s going for a walk or pressing play on my Beach Body workout - I try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Moving your body decreases muscle tension, therefore lowering anxiety, and also helps increase serotonin which boosts your mood!

Finding your perfect routine is sure to take a little trial and error. But trust me - it’s worth it!
